    HELPFUL TIPS

These donuts taste best when fresh, if you are going to make them in advance, wait to frost and top with candies until right before serving.

I have given both grams and cups as measurements. Grams will always result in a more precise bake, and also allow for an easier clean up without as many dishes!

    Chocolate Donuts

    • ½ cup granulated sugar
    • ½ cup cocoa powder
    • ¾ teaspoon baking soda
    • ¼ teaspoon salt
    • 2 large eggs room temp
    • ½ cup buttermilk room temp, can also use milk
    • ¼ cup sour cream room temp
    • 2 teaspoon vanilla
    • 3 tablespoon melted butter, cooled

    Chocolate Peppermint Glaze

    • 3 tablespoon semi-sweet chocolate chips melted
    • 1½ teaspoon coconut oil (7g)
    • ¾ cup powdered sugar
    • 2 tablespoon milk
    • ⅛ teaspoon peppermint or vanilla extract
    • ½ cup crushed candy cane pieces

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 375 F, and spray a 12 hole donut pan with non-stick spray. Set aside.

    • In a large bowl whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, soda and salt until no clumps remain.

    • Melt chocolate chips with coconut oil, stir and add all other glaze ingredients to a bowl and mix until combined.
    • Once donuts are cooled, dip the top of each donut in the glaze and then top with peppermint candies.

    Notes

These donuts are best eaten when they are fresh, but if you need to store in an airtight container, although the peppermint candies will soften from sitting on the frosting after time.
For best results make sure all ingredients are room temperature before starting.

Did I miss the instruction to melt the chocolate chips? It seems like that would be necessary to make it a glaze. At any rate, I just mixed powdered sugar, cocoa, and milk to make a drizzle. Quick and easy recipe. They look great after baking!
