Why You Will Love These
- Quick: I love that these cinnamon twists can be ready within 30 minutes.
- So Easy: This is the perfect recipe to get kids involved in, you really can't mess them up.
- Buttery Sweet: The taste of these with the buttery cinnamon sugar cannot be beat.
Ingredient Notes
Full ingredient measurements and instructions can be found in the recipe card below.
- Puff Pastry: I just picked this up in the freezer section at my local grocery store.
- Sugars: I used a combination of both brown and granulated sugar, but use whatever you have on hand.
- Salt: Just a pinch helps balance the sweetness from the sugars.
Recipe Instructions
Step 1: Unfold puff pastry onto a lightly floured mat or counter. Roll into a large rectangle.
Step 2: In a small bowl mix together both sugars, cinnamon and salt.
Step 3: Brush pastry with melted butter evenly across the top. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar mixture over the melted butter. Press the mixture into the butter/pastry using your rolling pin to help it adhere, you can also use your hands if needed.
Step 4: Fold the pastry in half, keeping it long. Using a pastry or pizza cutter cut the pastry into 12 strips. Twist each strip and pinch the end that is open.
Step 5: Scatter all 12 twists so they aren't touching and have a little space to "puff". Brush the tops with a little extra butter is desired and sprinkle with any cinnamon sugar mixture that fell out during the twisting.
Step 6: Bake cinnamon twists for 15-17 minutes, or until a light golden brown. Allow to cool before eating.
Expert Baking Tips
- If the thawed pastry becomes warm or sticky just throw it in the fridge for a few minutes to firm back up.
- Do not stress about twisting these up perfectly. The puff pastry is going to puff up when baking and change the shape.
- You can use all granulated or all brown sugar if you only have one on hand.
FAQ
Yes, it it necessary to allow the puff pastry to defrost to roll it out. If you try and open it when its frozen you risk breaking it.
Yes, mix up just a little bit of powdered sugar and milk and drizzle across the top.
No, the pie crust will not puff up the same.
Storing & Freezing
These puff pastry cinnamon twists are best served fresh. If you need to store them, I would do it in an airtight container, and then crisp them back up for 1-2 minutes in the oven or an air fryer.
